McPherson University Inducts 52 Nursing Graduates, Urges Compassion and Professionalism

McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, has inducted 52 graduates of its Nursing Science programme into the nursing profession, reaffirming its commitment to producing competent, ethical, and globally competitive healthcare professionals.

The induction took place during the University's 3rd Nursing Induction Ceremony, marking the successful completion of the graduates' academic and clinical training and their transition into professional nursing practice.

Addressing the inductees, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Adegbaye Igbasan, congratulated them on completing five years of rigorous academic and clinical training. He described the induction as the beginning of a lifelong commitment to serving humanity, emphasizing that nursing is not merely a profession but a calling that requires compassion, integrity, excellence, and selfless service.

Prof. Igbasan also expressed concern over the continued migration of Nigerian nurses and other healthcare professionals abroad, urging the newly inducted nurses to contribute meaningfully to strengthening the country's healthcare system. He commended the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, parents, guardians, and the Faculty of Nursing Sciences for their roles in the successful training of the graduates.

The guest lecture, delivered by Dr. (Mrs.) Ojo Iyanuoluwa on behalf of Prof. Prisca Adejumo, focused on the theme, "Commitment to Caring, Upholding Professionalism and Compassion in Nursing."

Dr. Iyanuoluwa stressed that compassionate care remains the foundation of quality nursing practice and encouraged the inductees to place patients at the center of every decision while maintaining the highest ethical standards.

She also highlighted the importance of professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and continuous professional development in meeting the changing demands of healthcare. She urged the graduates to uphold the dignity of the nursing profession, embrace lifelong learning, and remain committed to excellence in practice.

The Registrar and Secretary-General of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Dr. Alhassan Ndagi, represented by Dr. (Mrs.) Modupe Ayoola, administered the professional oath and charged the graduates to be worthy ambassadors of both the nursing profession and McPherson University.

The Provost of the College of Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Lucy Airauhi, encouraged the newly inducted nurses to pursue continuous learning and maintain the highest standards of professional practice. The Coordinating Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Sciences, Dr. Dorcas Shonibare, formally presented the 52 graduates to the Council for induction and urged them to remain committed to the ethics and values of the profession.

Speaking on behalf of the graduating class, the Valedictorian and Best Graduating Student, Nurse Abiodun Ayooluwa Deborah, expressed gratitude to God, the University Management, lecturers, parents, and colleagues for their support throughout the five-year programme. She encouraged her fellow inductees to uphold integrity, excellence, and compassionate service while remaining worthy ambassadors of McPherson University.

The University said the induction ceremony underscores its commitment to excellence in nursing education through quality teaching, intensive clinical training, and character development, as it continues to produce highly skilled and ethically grounded healthcare professionals capable of making meaningful contributions to Nigeria's healthcare system and the global community.
