The Federal Government has unveiled the Federal Tertiary Institutions Governance and Transparency Platform (FTIGTP) — a major reform initiative designed to strengthen accountability, transparency, and data-driven governance across Nigeria’s higher education system.

The Federal Government has unveiled the Federal Tertiary Institutions Governance and Transparency Platform (FTIGTP) — a major reform initiative designed to strengthen accountability, transparency, and data-driven governance across Nigeria’s higher education system.

The launch, which took place on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the Federal Ministry of Education Headquarters in Abuja, was presided over by the Honourable Minister of Education, Chief (Dr.) Maruf Tunji Alausa, FAMedS, CON.

According to a statement issued by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Alausa described the platform as a “milestone in modernising higher education management and rebuilding public trust.” He explained that the FTIGTP provides a unified national database that delivers real-time information on enrolment, funding, grants, and performance indicators for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide.

Dr. Alausa noted that the platform is a strategic reform tool aimed at promoting transparency, operational efficiency, and performance-based funding. He further stated that future government interventions in tertiary institutions would be linked to compliance levels and accountability performance.

Also speaking at the event, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmed, described the initiative as central to the Ministry’s digital transformation agenda, while the Former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Osita Chidoka, lauded it as a visionary and data-driven intervention capable of reshaping Nigeria’s tertiary education governance.

Representatives of Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts of tertiary institutions across the country expressed their full support and pledged institutional collaboration to ensure the sustainability and success of the initiative.

The platform, demonstrated by the Nigerian Education Data Initiative (NEDI), is now live and accessible via transparency.education.gov.ng.

The launch was attended by several dignitaries, including the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Professor Leo Daniel, who was represented by the University Bursar, Dr. Mbobo Erasmus, alongside the Acting Director of Procurement, Mr. Umoh Jacob.

The unveiling of FTIGTP marks a landmark step in Nigeria’s commitment to transparency, innovation, and evidence-based management within the nation’s tertiary education sector.
