FIRS Commends BUK for Prompt Tax Remittance, Seeks Collaboration

A team from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) visited Bayero University, Kano (BUK) to sensitize the management on tax matters and commend the university for its prompt remittance of taxes.

The team, led by Director of Business Department, Malam Atiku Mohammed, encouraged other institutions to emulate BUK's example.

The FIRS boss explained that the agency is responsible for collecting various taxes, including petroleum income tax, company income tax, and value-added tax. He emphasized the importance of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) in charging, deducting, and remitting taxes.

FIRS has a target of N19.7 trillion for 2024, a 60% increase from 2023. Mohammed stressed that achieving this target requires support and cooperation from taxpayers. He highlighted the challenge of nonpayment of taxes by many taxpayers despite efforts to address this issue.

The visit aimed to foster collaboration between FIRS and BUK, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and promoting a culture of tax payment.
