FPOG, ITF Equip Students with SIWES Knowledge and Workplace Skills

The Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas (FPOG), Bonny, has partnered with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) to sensitise students on the requirements of the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) and prepare them for the demands of the workplace.

The sensitisation programme, held on Monday, September 14, 2026, focused on equipping students with practical knowledge of SIWES procedures, workplace expectations and professional conduct.

Speaking during the programme, the Rector of the institution, Dr. Victor Okolobah, who was represented by the Deputy Rector, Administration, Dr. Adebola Obasan, commended the collaboration between FPOG and the ITF.

He described the initiative as a valuable step towards equipping students with practical knowledge through orientation and capacity-building initiatives.

Dr. Obasan urged the students to make the most of the opportunity by internalising the lessons shared during the programme, noting that the knowledge gained would contribute to a more productive future.

During a courtesy visit by the visiting ITF team, the Rector, Dr. Victor Okolobah, also appealed to the ITF Area Manager to ensure the timely release of stipends and allowances to students.

He noted that prompt payment of the stipends and allowances would help cushion the effects of transportation costs on students participating in the SIWES programme.

Officials of the ITF, led by the Area Manager, provided students with an overview of the SIWES programme, covering its policy guidelines, rules and regulations, logbook documentation, monthly progress reporting and the master placement list.

The sensitisation session also featured guidance on workplace codes of conduct, professional ethics and safety requirements expected in industrial and other work environments.

The programme formed part of the institution’s ongoing efforts to prepare students for effective industrial exposure, workplace responsibilities and career development.
