FUE Zaria VC Prof. Bunkure Receives Strategic Academic Staff Placement Report

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education (FUE), Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, has received the report of the Committee on Academic Staff Placement in Respect of Other Ranks, established to recommend the placement of academic staff into appropriate academic cadres in line with the requirements of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The report was presented on Monday, 15 June 2026, by the Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Kabir Haruna Danja, Dean of the Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education, accompanied by the Committee Secretary, Malam Dahiru M. B. Umar, Head of the Examinations, Certificates, Records and Verification (ECR&V) Unit.

Speaking during the presentation, Prof. Danja explained that the Committee, constituted with effect from 26 March 2026, was mandated to consider and recommend the placement of academic staff in the ranks of Senior Lecturer, Lecturer I, Lecturer II and Graduate Assistant in conformity with the NUC Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS).

He stated that the Committee ensured that all affected staff possessed the requisite qualifications and met the standards prescribed under the CCMAS framework for academic appointments and career progression within the Nigerian university system.

According to him, the Committee carefully reviewed the credentials and records of a total of 741 academic staff and made recommendations guided by fairness, transparency, merit and strict compliance with extant regulations.

The Committee comprised Dr. (Mrs.) Grace B. Uyagu, Dean, Faculty of Education; Dr. Rabiu Hussaini Ibrahim, Dean, Faculty of Arts Education; Dr. Haruna Abbas, Dean, Faculty of Nigerian and Foreign Languages; Dr. Muawiya Haruna Usman, Dean, Faculty of Science Education; Dr. (Mrs.) Halima Yusuf Audi, Dean, Faculty of Specialized Education; Dr. Ibrahim Ladi Ahmed, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences Education; and Dr. Ubale Ismaila Alhaji, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union.

Receiving the report, the Vice-Chancellor commended the Committee for its diligence, commitment and professionalism in carrying out the assignment. He described the exercise as another significant milestone in the University's ongoing efforts to fully transition its academic structure and align its operations with the standards and requirements of the Nigerian university system.

Prof. Bunkure assured members of the Committee that the report would receive due consideration, reiterating the University's commitment to merit, due process and regulatory compliance in all matters relating to staff development and welfare.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that the placement exercise complements recent efforts by the University to strengthen its academic workforce, including the promotion of 43 academic staff to the rank of Professor and 15 others to the rank of Reader, as part of its drive to build a robust academic environment.
