FUE Zaria Vice-Chancellor Engages Visiting Professor on Academic Staff Placement for 2026
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education (FUE), Zaria, Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure, held a high-level interactive session on January 8, 2026, to review progress on the transition of academic staff into the professorial cadre.
The strategic engagement featured Professor Garba Shuaib, a Visiting Professor from the Department of Science Education at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), and focused on streamlining institutional processes for academic advancement following the institution's upgrade to a federal university.
Academic Progression: The meeting addressed the placement of senior academic staff into university ranks. Under the current framework, Chief Lecturers with PhDs and five years of seniority are eligible for placement in the professorial cadre, while eligible Principal Lecturers may be placed as Readers.
Committee Oversight: Members of the Committee on Academic Staff Placement attended the session, including Secretary Mr. Peter Kuchaks and Professor Kabiru Haruna Danja.
Administrative Coordination: The presence of Acting Registrar Alhaji Shehu Iya Sa’idu and Acting Bursar Alhaji Muhammad Kabiru Aliyu underscored the university's commitment to a transparent and fiscally coordinated transition.
This engagement follows several recent institutional milestones under Professor Bunkure’s leadership in early 2026, including the inauguration of a committee to review the university's Strategic Plan and Academic Brief on January 14, 2026. These efforts aim to ensure a seamless conversion of the previous college structure into a robust university framework for the 2025/2026 academic session.
