FUHSO Launches Business Start-Up and Incubation Training for Staff, Students

The Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), through its Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC), in collaboration with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), has commenced an intensive Business Start-Up and Incubation Training for staff and students of the University.

The training commenced on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Lecture Hall B, Otada Campus, with the aim of equipping participants with practical entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to identify business opportunities, develop viable ideas and build sustainable enterprises.

Declaring the programme open on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Aba Uba, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Friday Godwin Okibe, said the initiative was designed to empower participants with practical skills that could enable them to establish businesses, become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to economic development.

Professor Okibe urged participants to maximise the opportunity by actively engaging with the facilitators, asking questions, networking and applying the knowledge acquired during the training.

He also commended TETFund and other stakeholders for their support towards the initiative.

In his remarks, the Registrar, Mr Michael Okoko Ogiji, urged participants to take the training seriously and translate the knowledge acquired into practical ventures.

He encouraged staff to begin preparing early for life beyond active service and urged participants to share the knowledge gained with others.

The Acting Director of the Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Dr Emmanuel Ogbejuwa, described entrepreneurship as a vital tool for promoting self-reliance, innovation and economic development.

He explained that the University had revived its entrepreneurship programme under the present administration and was working to mobilise the necessary resources to further strengthen the initiative.

Dr Ogbejuwa encouraged participants to focus on acquiring practical skills that would enable them to create opportunities, solve problems and become productive contributors to society.

Following the opening ceremony, participants moved into practical sessions, with the facilitator, Business Consultant from Jos, Dr Dele Balogun, leading the first session titled, “Identifying Business Opportunities, Idea Formulation and Model Building.”

The session featured group exercises during which participants brainstormed and developed workable business ideas while learning how to identify viable opportunities and build sustainable business models.

Participants also took part in interactive question-and-answer sessions and a practical exercise on capital needs assessment.

The exercise culminated in a competitive group activity, with the winning group receiving a cash prize.

The training continues on Tuesday, September 29, with additional sessions aimed at deepening participants’ entrepreneurial knowledge and strengthening their practical business skills.

Also in attendance were the Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr Peter Adikwu; Dr (Mrs) Stella Uba; Dr Celina Aju-Ameh; as well as other heads of departments and units of the University.
