FUNAAB Concludes 2026 Intercollegiate Sports, VC’s Cup Competition

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), on April 15, 2026, successfully concluded its Intercollegiate Sports/Vice-Chancellor’s Cup Competition, bringing together students from various Colleges in a spirited display of sportsmanship, unity, and healthy rivalry.

Declaring the tournament closed at the grand finale, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, represented by the Dean, College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT), Prof. Bolarinwa Senjobi, appreciated dignitaries, staff, students, and other participants for their support and active involvement. He described the event as a significant platform for fostering unity and celebrating collective achievements within the University Community.

The final match between the College of Environmental Resources Management (COLERM) and the College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), drew enthusiastic cheers from spectators. COLERM emerged victorious with a 2–0 win, with goals from Richard Oyebisi and Matthew Olayinka.

Earlier, the Director, Sports and Wellness, Dr. Samuel Olabanji, lauded the organisers for effectively coordinating the event within the stipulated timeframe. He highlighted the importance of such initiatives in providing students with opportunities for relaxation and recreation despite their academic commitments.

Dr. Olabanji also commended the Vice-Chancellor for his consistent support for student-focused programmes and sporting activities, noting that his presence at the finals reflected Management’s commitment to holistic student development.

At the end of the tournament, the College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD) emerged overall winner across the various sporting events. Medals and certificates were presented to deserving teams and participants.

The event ended on a celebratory note, with appreciation expressed to the University Management for sustaining the VC’s Cup Competition, which continues to strengthen intercollegiate relationships and promote recreational engagement within FUNAAB.

Dignitaries at the event included a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Kola Adebayo; Dean, College of Biosciences, Prof. Iyabode Kehinde; and the Director of Sports, Federal College of Education, Osiele, Dr. Morufu Balogun, among others.
