FUNAAB Deputy Bursar Emerges Pioneer Bursar of Godswill Akpabio University

A Deputy Bursar of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Mrs. Antigha Effioanwan Asuquo, has been appointed the pioneer Bursar of Godswill Akpabio University, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

A Deputy Bursar of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Mrs. Antigha Effioanwan Asuquo, has been appointed the pioneer Bursar of Godswill Akpabio University, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The appointment marks a new milestone in Mrs. Asuquo’s career after more than 19 years of service in university financial administration at FUNAAB. She joined the university’s Bursary Department in July 2007 and has since served in various capacities.

According to the Acting Head of the Directorate of Public Relations, FUNAAB, Mr. Olasunkanmi Olajide, Mrs. Asuquo currently serves as Head of Payroll and Personal Entitlements, a position she assumed on November 1, 2023.

In the role, she oversees the preparation and processing of monthly salaries for academic and non-teaching staff, salary variations, staff entitlements, third-party deductions, pension remittances and other payroll-related financial operations.

She also supervises the finalisation of salary payments through the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), reviews staff records on the university’s administrative software platform and ensures accurate computations relating to promotions, step increments and earned allowances.

Before taking up her current responsibility, Mrs. Asuquo served as Head of the Treasury Section and subsequently rose to the position of Chief Accountant, which she held from 2018 to 2023.

She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, obtained in 2000.

She also earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Borno State, in 1991.

Mrs. Asuquo’s academic record includes being named the Best Graduating Student in Accounting and Best Female Graduating Student in Accounting at UNIMAID in 1991.

Reacting to the appointment, the Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, congratulated Mrs. Asuquo and described the appointment as recognition of her professionalism, competence and commitment to excellence in university financial administration.

Prof. Kehinde expressed confidence that she would deploy her experience and expertise to the new role, particularly in establishing and leading the financial management structure of the newly established university.

The Vice-Chancellor also commended Mrs. Asuquo for her contributions to FUNAAB’s financial administration and wished her success as she assumes the historic responsibility of serving as the pioneer Bursar of Godswill Akpabio University.

Mr. Olajide said the appointment further demonstrates the depth of professional expertise and institutional experience developed at FUNAAB, describing Mrs. Asuquo’s emergence as another significant milestone in her career.
