FUNAAB Honours Prof. Adebayo for Outstanding Service as DVC, Development

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), today, June 10, 2025, held a special Appreciation Meeting in honour of Prof. Kola Adebayo, the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), for his exemplary, selfless, and visionary leadership during his two-year tenure.

The event, held at the International Scholars' and Resource Centre (IS&RC), was attended by top University officials.

In his Opening Remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, described Prof. Adebayo as a dependable and humble administrator who did not seek the DVC role but accepted the appointment with grace. “He was simply going about his duties as the Director, Directorate of Academic Planning when I asked him to serve, and he delivered beyond expectations,” Prof. Kehinde stated.

The Vice-Chancellor commended Prof. Adebayo’s commitment, describing him as a “utility player” who brought energy and vision to every assignment. He noted that even after leaving office, Prof. Adebayo remained active, as he was saddled with the responsibility of coordinating the upcoming retreat for the Committee of Deans and Directors (CODAD) members.

Reflecting on their time working together, the Vice-Chancellor emphasised the absence of any misunderstanding, describing Prof. Adebayo as a team player whose collaborative spirit and dedication helped move the University forward. He presented Prof. Adebayo with a huge portrait and other gifts as tokens of appreciation, while also recognising the support of his wife and children.

In his response, Prof. Adebayo expressed deep gratitude to the University for the honour bestowed upon him, calling his time in office both fulfilling and impactful. “It has been a great privilege to work with such a fantastic team,” he said, lauding the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor and the support he received throughout his tenure.

He expressed optimism about the University’s future, highlighting the transformation of FUNAAB’s agricultural lands under the current administration. “The seeds sown today will yield visible and lasting fruits,” he said, assuring the University of his continued support and disclosing his new sustainability-focused assignments aimed at furthering FUNAAB’s growth.

The event began with an opening prayer by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, and concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the Registrar, Dr. Titus Adeniyi. Dignitaries present included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Prof. Mufutau Atayese; Bursar's Representative, Mrs. Margaret Omisope; University Librarian, Prof. Abayomi Owolabi and Mr. Moses Ayanda, Director, Executive Affairs of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, among others.
