Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta has conducted a one-day capacity-building workshop for 26 beneficiaries of the Institutional Based Research (IBR) grants supported by Tertiary Education Trust Fund.

The workshop, held on April 7, 2026, focused on improving research quality, strengthening accountability mechanisms, and ensuring compliance with global best practices in academic research execution.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, in an address delivered by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Olawale Dario, stressed the importance of rigorous research standards and institutional accountability in driving impactful outcomes. He noted that the university plans to institutionalise such engagements, particularly during the presentation of research award letters, to reinforce its research culture.
He also disclosed ongoing efforts to strengthen the institution’s Monitoring and Evaluation Unit to improve tracking, assessment, and overall performance of funded research projects.
Earlier, the Acting Director of the Directorate of Research, Innovations and Partnerships, Dr. Oluwagbemiga Adeleye, said the workshop was organised to address identified gaps in the implementation of the IBR programme, particularly in documentation, reporting structure, and compliance with required formats.
He emphasised that effective monitoring should run throughout the lifecycle of research projects rather than at completion stage, noting that sustainability and long-term impact remain key expectations of funded research outputs.

The programme also featured technical presentations, including a lecture on research conduct by Prof. Isaac Ayelaagbe and a session on data integrity and publications delivered by Prof. Helen Bodunde, aimed at equipping participants with practical tools for improved research delivery.
