FUTA Gets NUC Approval to Commence Four New Programmes in 2026/2027 Session
The National Universities Commission (NUC), the regulatory body for academic activities in Nigerian universities, has approved the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) to commence four new undergraduate programmes from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The National Universities Commission (NUC), the regulatory body for academic activities in Nigerian universities, has approved the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) to commence four new undergraduate programmes from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval followed resource verification exercises recently conducted by teams from the NUC to assess the human and material resources available for the establishment of the programmes.
The newly approved programmes are:
- B.Tech. Industrial and Technology Education in the School of Science and Technology Education
- B.Tech. Landscape Architecture in the School of Architecture
- B.Tech. Interior Architecture Design in the School of Architecture
- B.Tech. Information and Communication Engineering in the School of Electrical Systems Engineering
With the approval of the new programmes, the School of Architecture now has three programmes: B.Tech. Architecture, B.Tech. Landscape Architecture and B.Tech. Interior Architecture Design.
Conveying the approval of the NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, to the Vice Chancellor of FUTA, Professor Adenike Oladiji, the Director of Academic Planning at the NUC, Abubakar Girei, stated that the Executive Secretary had approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the four programmes.
“I am directed to inform the Vice Chancellor that the Executive Secretary has considered and approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the following programmes to be run in the main campus of the University with effect from the 2026/2027 academic session,” he stated.
Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, described the approval as a major breakthrough and an opportunity to train more young people in the newly approved areas of study.
“This is a major breakthrough and another opportunity to train our teeming youth in these new areas of study for the benefit of humankind,” Oladiji said.
She added that FUTA has the human and material resources required to train both Nigerian and foreign students in the new programmes.
The Vice Chancellor urged prospective students seeking admission to take advantage of the newly approved programmes from the 2026/2027 academic session.
