FUTH Lafia Annex, Bringing Life Transformation to People's Door Step

In the heart of Millionaires Quarters in Lafia, a quiet transformation has been unfolding—one that is redefining healthcare access and restoring hope for thousands of residents. What once began as a modest healthcare extension has grown into a vital lifeline for the community: the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia Annex formally known as DASH Annex.

For years, residents of Lafia and surrounding communities in Nasarawa State faced the familiar challenge of limited access to quality healthcare. Long travel distances, overcrowded facilities, and delays in medical attention were common experiences. The establishment of the annex at Millionaires Quarters changed that narrative.

The decision by the management of the Federal University Teaching Hospital Lafia to expand services into the Millionaires Quarters area was driven by a simple but powerful vision: bring quality healthcare closer to the people.

What started as an annex providing basic outpatient services has gradually evolved into a hub of medical activity. Today, the facility handles a wide range of services—from routine consultations and maternal care to laboratory diagnostics and emergency stabilization and surgeries. From May 2025 when surgeries commenced in FUTH Annex till date, about 176 surgeries were carried out.

Healthcare workers at the annex say they understand very clearly the goal; to ensure that no patient is denied timely medical attention simply because the main hospital is far away.

Residents of Millionaires Quarters recall the days when accessing specialized care meant traveling across town or waiting hours at the main teaching hospital. Now, the annex offers faster access and more personalized attention. Local traders, civil servants, and families living in the area say the presence of the hospital has significantly improved their quality of life in many ways.

Community leaders believe the annex demonstrates how strategic healthcare investments can uplift entire neighborhoods.

While the progress is significant, administrators say the vision for the facility is still evolving. Plans for expanding services, improving infrastructure, and introducing more specialized clinics are part of the hospital’s long-term roadmap.
