The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Professor Leo Daniel, Nigeria’s first Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics, has called on employees across formal and informal sectors, as well as all tiers of government, to intentionally contribute to national development.

Speaking at the 2025 End-of-Year Party & Awards Ceremony and 2026 Calendar Launch of the Association of Heads of Federal Establishments (AHFE), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Professor Daniel emphasized that the effectiveness of any system is determined by the collective contributions of its constituent units.

Held at Jack’sville Event Center, Uyo, the University don highlighted the importance of professionalism, adherence to institutional rules, and hard work as key drivers for effective service delivery. He further urged employers to create conducive work environments and improve employee welfare to enhance performance.

Professor Daniel also commended the leadership of AHFE, led by Chairman Mrs. Uduak Effiong Essien, for initiatives aimed at strengthening the performance of Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state. He pledged FUTIA’s continuous support for the Association’s programmes.

In her opening remarks, Mrs. Essien outlined AHFE’s strategic plans for 2026 to elevate the standards of the Association and optimize the operations of federal establishments in Akwa Ibom State. The event featured award presentations to distinguished stakeholders, unveiling of the 2026 calendar, inauguration of the AHFE Multipurpose Cooperative Society Committee, choir and dance performances, dinner, and delivery of goodwill messages.

A lecture on “Well-Being: In and Out of the Workplace” was presented by Professor Aniekan Peter of the Nigerian Medical Association (Akwa Ibom State), represented by Professor Anyiekere Ekanem, emphasizing the need for employees to prioritize health for optimal performance.

The event drew Heads and staff from Federal Ministries, Institutions, Agencies, Commissions, and Parastatals in Akwa Ibom State, alongside their representatives, marking a significant gathering for professional development and institutional collaboration.
