FUTMINNA Breaks into West Africa’s Top 10 in 2026 Times Higher Education Rankings
The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) has achieved a historic milestone, securing a spot among the Top 10 universities in West Africa according to the Times Higher Education (THE) 2026 World University Rankings.
In an expansive evaluation of 2,191 universities across 115 countries, FUTMINNA emerged as the 9th best university in West Africa. On a global scale, the institution maintained a strong position within the 1201–1500 bracket, reflecting its growing influence in the international academic landscape.
The 2026 rankings, as reported by Business Insider Africa, assessed institutions based on five critical pillars of excellence:
Research Quality & Environment: Evaluating the impact and sustainability of scholarly output.
Teaching Standards: Measuring the learning environment and student-to-staff ratios.
Industry Income: The university's ability to assist industry with innovations and inventions.
International Outlook: Proportions of international students and staff, and global research collaborations.
Reacting to the news, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, lauded the result as a "testament to the collective dedication" of the university community. Under his leadership, FUTMINNA has solidified its status as a powerhouse in Nigerian education, currently ranking:
7th best in Nigeria
9th best in West Africa
68th best in Africa
"We will not relent in our pursuit of higher standards," Professor Kuta remarked. "Our goal is to consolidate these gains and propel FUTMINNA into the top three universities in Nigeria and beyond."
The achievement underscores the university's commitment to technological innovation and research excellence, further attracting international partners and prospective students to the Minna-based institution.
