Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, has crowned Princess Chinyere Ekwe as its 2025 Vice-Chancellor for One Day, in a programme designed to inspire academic excellence and cultivate leadership among students.

The announcement was made by Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, who explained that the selection followed rigorous testing among the five students who achieved a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.00 in the 2024/2025 academic session.

Reverend Father Professor Anieke highlighted that the initiative fosters healthy competition and leadership awareness, urging students to dream big and build impactful personal narratives. The programme aims to ensure that every student is recognized and encouraged for their achievements.

The event was graced by Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Lloyd Ekweremadu, who commended the university for promoting merit-based leadership initiatives and expressed hope that the nation could replicate such transparent practices in public leadership selection.

During her one-day tenure, Princess Ekwe presided over a special session of the University Senate, addressing student matters, and paid a courtesy visit to the Enugu State Government House, where she was warmly received by Professor Chidiebere Onyia, Secretary to the State Government, representing Governor Dr. Peter Mbah. She also addressed pupils and students at the Godfrey Okoye University Nursery, Primary, and Secondary Schools, inspiring them to pursue academic excellence.

Dr. Modesta Iduma, Head of the Department of Economics, praised Princess Ekwe as intelligent, determined, and purpose-driven, while Associate Professor John Odoh, Dean of the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, highlighted the faculty’s consistent record of excellence, noting it has produced the Vice-Chancellor for One Day three times. On behalf of the family, Mrs. Chinyere Ekwe, South-East Area Director of the National Youth Service Corps, expressed gratitude to the university for honoring her daughter.

Princess Ekwe’s tenure ran from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., during which she enjoyed full protocol, security, and privileges of the office. Monetary awards were presented to all students who achieved a perfect CGPA, including Ogadimma Samuel Ogochukwu, Ogbu Esther Kenechukwu, Okpala Amalachi Pascaline, and Ozoude Reuben Chukwuebuka, with Princess Ekwe standing out as the Vice-Chancellor for One Day.

The Vice-Chancellor also unveiled the Student Council of Honour for the 2025–2026 academic session, reinforcing the university’s commitment to recognizing and empowering outstanding students. Godfrey Okoye University continues to lead in promoting academic excellence, leadership, and moral integrity among its student body.
