Officials from the National Universities Commission (NUC) were received at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) for a Resource Verification Exercise, stressing that their mission is focused on fact-finding rather than indictment.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to IAUE Vice-Chancellor, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, on September 22, 2025, Professor Blaise Gundu Gbaden, who led the delegation, stated that the exercise aims to verify facilities, identify deficiencies, and advise on areas for improvement. He noted that NUC has established criteria that must be implemented to ensure academic standards are consistent across universities.

Professor Gbaden, a Professor of Painting from the Federal University of Lagos, emphasized that education should prepare students for self-reliance and self-sufficiency. He explained that the team would assess facilities including books, office spaces, and other resources, while acknowledging that no university is perfect. He highlighted that NUC’s goal is to ensure viable institutions that keep pace with digital technology and expressed optimism that cooperation would help IAUE advance.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Onuchuku welcomed the team and noted that the exercise would help the university evaluate its readiness to run academic programmes effectively.

The verification exercise covered the following programmes at IAUE: Zoology, Microbiology, Information Technology, Fine and Applied Arts (postgraduate level), and Theatre and Film Studies (postgraduate level).
