Kano Deputy Governor Pledges Government Support for Northwest University Kano

The Deputy Governor of Kano State and Commissioner for Higher Education, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has reaffirmed the state government's commitment to supporting Northwest University Kano.

During a visit to the university on January 28, 2025, Gwarzo pledged to address the institution's pressing needs, including power supply, transportation, and infrastructural development.

Gwarzo commended the university's achievements under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa. He acknowledged the establishment of new faculties, introduction of postgraduate programs, and infrastructural development, including the construction of modern lecture theaters, laboratories, and a Computer-Based Test (CBT) center.

The Deputy Governor emphasized the importance of digital transformation in education, urging staff to embrace innovation and creativity. He described Northwest University Kano as a "rising star" in the northwestern region of Nigeria, noting the state government's allocation of over 31% of its total budget to education, surpassing UNESCO's minimum recommendation.

 

During the visit, Gwarzo also pledged to complement existing funds to support the university's entrepreneurship program, increasing the stipend for each graduate from ₦20,000 to ₦50,000. The visit marked a significant step towards strengthening the relationship between the state government and Northwest University Kano, reinforcing the government's dedication to enhancing the quality of higher education in Kano State.
