KERC Chairman Visits CUSTECH, Seeks Partnership on Energy Research and Regulation

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Kogi Electricity Regulatory Commission, KERC, Engr. Ibrahim Sunday Abdulwaris, has paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the Confluence University of Science and Technology, CUSTECH, Osara, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, to explore areas of institutional collaboration.

The visit took place on Wednesday, 30th September 2026, at the Vice-Chancellor’s office in Osara, and provided an opportunity for both institutions to discuss mutual interests in energy research, regulation, policy studies, innovation and industry-academia collaboration.

Receiving the delegation, Prof. Salawu commended the Commission for initiating the engagement and described it as an opportunity to deepen collaboration between the University and the electricity regulatory body.

He assured the Commission of CUSTECH’s readiness to support initiatives that will contribute to the development of Kogi State and expressed willingness to collaborate on areas capable of providing practical solutions to challenges in the state.

He noted that the partnership would also expose students and researchers to valuable industrial knowledge and practical experience from the electricity regulatory sector.

Earlier, Engr. Abdulwaris said the Commission is committed to promoting sanity, efficiency and improved service delivery in the electricity sector for consumers across Kogi State.

He expressed interest in collaborating with CUSTECH to advance research and knowledge development in the energy sector, adding that the partnership would create opportunities for joint energy research and provide a platform for CUSTECH to develop into a centre of excellence for the study of energy regulation and policy.

He emphasised the importance of bringing academia and industry together to address emerging challenges in the electricity sector, noting that such collaboration would enhance knowledge exchange and contribute to practical solutions for the benefit of consumers and the state.

The meeting was attended by the University Registrar, Mrs. Glory Ojochogu Yakubu; University Bursar, Mr. Bello Emmanuel Ajayi; University Librarian, Mrs. Helen Osebequen Chris-Israel; and Acting Head, Information, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, Mr. Umar Steven Ogirima.
