In a bid to advance comprehensive engineering education and technological development in the construction industry, the Lagos State Government has initiated a collaboration between the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory Agency (LSMTL) and Lagos State University (LASU). The partnership aims to enhance material testing processes and bolster engineering education to prevent building disasters within the Ojo-Badagry axis.

During a meeting held on Monday, September 9, 2024, at the LASU Ojo Campus, Engr. Olayinka Abdul, General Manager of LSMTL, emphasized the need to establish a Materials Testing Office on the campus. This facility will provide undergraduates with practical learning experiences, helping to foster significant growth in the engineering profession throughout Lagos State.

Engr. Abdul noted that the partnership will enhance knowledge exchange between academia and the construction industry, ensuring best practices are followed. In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, represented by Vice Administration and Professor of Physics, Prof. Adenike Boyo, praised the initiative. She highlighted its potential to improve experimental and digital aspects of engineering education, further elevating academic standards.

The partnership is expected to set the stage for future developments that will have a lasting impact on the construction and engineering sectors in Lagos State.
