Land Grabbers and Illegal Occupants Encroaching on University Land, UNIOSUN VC Warns

The Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, has raised an alarm over the increasing activities of land grabbers and illegal occupants encroaching on the institution’s landed property. 

Speaking on the challenges of university administration, Professor Adebooye revealed that the institution is currently battling external pressures from individuals and groups attempting to take over gazetted university land. He noted that these encroachments pose a significant threat to the university’s master plan and future developmental projects.

Beyond the land disputes, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the "immense pressure" administrators face from various stakeholders. These challenges include defending university boundaries against illegal settlers and local "land-grabbers" (Omo-Onile), anaging the competing expectations of host communities, staff unions, and government agencies and navigating the complexities of maintaining a multi-campus system amidst these external interferences.

Professor Adebooye emphasized that the university is a public asset meant for the advancement of education and should be protected by the law. He urged the state government and security agencies to intervene decisively to dislodge illegal occupants and secure the university’s boundaries.
