The Directorate of Advancement, Lagos State University (LASUDA), has taken its 11th “Educational Outreach Programme” to Lagos City Senior College, Sabo Yaba, as part of efforts to strengthen early academic orientation and mentorship among secondary school students.

The Directorate of Advancement, Lagos State University (LASUDA), has taken its 11th “Educational Outreach Programme” to Lagos City Senior College, Sabo Yaba, as part of efforts to strengthen early academic orientation and mentorship among secondary school students.

Held on Tuesday, 2nd June 2026, the programme themed “Catch Them Early” was designed to expose students to higher education opportunities, career pathways, and responsible personal development, while bridging the gap between secondary and tertiary education.

The event was declared open by the Tutor-General, Mr Olufemi Paseda, who was represented by Mr Gabriel Oluwada Ojo.

The Director of LASUDA, Distinguished Professor Rafiu Okuneye, described the initiative as a strategic intervention to connect students early with academic and career possibilities within the university system. He also commended the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, for her continued institutional support.

A series of presentations followed, featuring LASU academics and professionals who engaged students on education, discipline, career planning, and responsible living.

Dr Omowunmi Bakare provided an overview of LASU’s academic structure, admission pathways, and the role of LASUDA in institutional development.

Dr Oluwafunmilayo Ometan, in a talk titled “Distractions in the Life of Students,” cautioned students against habits that could derail academic progress and urged sustained focus on educational goals.

Dr Joseph Ayeni, Head of the Counselling Unit, delivered a session titled “Moving Beyond the Life of a Student,” where he encouraged self-awareness, resilience, and structured career planning.

Professor Simeon Dosunmu, in a motivational lecture titled “Path to Successful Students – The Eagle Story,” urged students to embrace discipline, courage, and excellence as core values for success.

Dr Abdul-wasi Moshood warned students against cultism, drug abuse, and sexual immorality, stressing their long-term negative impact on personal development and future opportunities.

Students participated actively in interactive sessions, raising questions on admission requirements, career choices, and personal development strategies.

Ms Omolola Odunsi of Aje Comprehensive Senior High School commended LASU and LASUDA for extending the outreach to schools in the area, describing it as impactful and timely.

The programme featured participating schools including Lagos City Senior College, Aje Comprehensive Senior High School, Herbert Macaulay Girls High School, and Birrel Avenue Senior High School, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Favour Solomon on behalf of the host school’s Head Girl, while Dr Barakat Oyediran, Deputy Registrar of LASUDA, offered the closing prayer.
