Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and the Nigeria Police Force have pledged to strengthen their collaboration ahead of the foundation-laying ceremony for the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Centre for Youth Empowerment and Intercultural Dialogue.

The commitment followed a visit by a police delegation led by the Area Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Odunayo M. Liasu, to the office of the university’s Vice-Chancellor.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, thanked the officers for their efforts in maintaining security in Osun State and assured them of the university’s support in carrying out their duties.
Liasu explained that the visit was intended to build on the existing relationship between the police and the university. Describing himself as “a son of the soil,” he pledged to contribute to protecting the institution.
The area commander also expressed concern over what he described as increasing drug addiction within the university community. He urged OAU to provide training opportunities that would help police officers improve their professional skills.
He further appreciated the university for providing opportunities to the children of police officers posted to the area from other parts of the country.

Other members of the police delegation included the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Awodire Clement.
University officials present at the meeting included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Akinfala; the Chairman of the Security Council, Professor Titilayo; and the university’s Chief Security Officer.
The foundation-laying ceremony for the proposed centre is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Oduduwa Hall, OAU.
The university said the centre reflects its commitment to youth empowerment, intercultural understanding, leadership development, innovation and national integration.

Officials also disclosed that the Deputy Governor of Lagos State was expected to visit the project site.
