The Counselling Unit of Admiralty University of Nigeria, ADUN, has organised a two-day mental health and well-being programme for junior staff to commemorate World Mental Health Day.
The programme, held at the Law Auditorium, Ibusa, Delta State, focused on financial management, reading culture, physical health and emotional well-being.
It was aimed at promoting healthy living, personal development and improved workplace productivity, under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher Ogbogbo.
Speaking on financial management, the Manager of Nigerian Navy Microfinance Bank, ADUN Relationship Centre, Ms Ene Ejembi, advised participants to cultivate consistent savings habits to prepare for unforeseen circumstances and make informed financial decisions.
She cautioned staff against taking loans without clear utilisation plans, stressing that borrowed funds should be channelled towards productive purposes.
The University Librarian, Commander A.E. Ameobi, highlighted the importance of reading to personal growth, intellectual development and mental well-being.

He noted that reading improves vocabulary, broadens knowledge and enhances understanding, while also contributing to emotional intelligence and informed decision-making. He encouraged participants to develop consistent reading habits.
The Officer-in-Charge of ADUN Clinic, MWO Remigius Njoku, stressed the importance of maintaining good physical health and adopting healthy habits.
Similarly, the Acting Head of the Counselling Unit, Mr Edward Ozokede, spoke on stress management and emotional well-being, describing stress as an evolutionary survival mechanism that must be understood and managed. He encouraged participants to adopt appropriate coping strategies and seek professional help when necessary.
One of the participants, Miss Celestine Eucharia, commended the Counselling Unit for the educative and impactful programme. She said the sessions raised awareness about financial management, reading culture and physical and mental health, particularly on responsible borrowing.
She expressed optimism that the knowledge gained would enhance personal development and effectiveness at work.
The programme reaffirmed the university's commitment to the welfare of staff under the leadership of Professor Ogbogbo.
