ACU Trains Hostel Supervisors, Porters on Student Welfare and Service Delivery

Hostel supervisors and porters at Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, have received training on effective hostel administration, student welfare, discipline and service delivery as part of efforts to improve their professional performance.

The staff participated in a one-day seminar workshop held on Friday, September 25, 2026, which featured the Bishop of Ogbomosho Diocese and Supervisory Bishop of Ibadan Diocese, the Rt. Rev’d. Dr. Titus Babatunde Olayinka.

During the workshop, Bishop Olayinka prayed for and blessed the participants, while commending the hostel supervisors and porters for taking on the responsibility of caring for students entrusted to the University.

In his address, the Bishop described the workshop as timely, particularly as students prepare to resume for a new academic session.

He appreciated the hostel supervisors and porters for their work, noting that their efforts are highly valued by the University Management and the Anglican Diocese Supra West Board.

Bishop Olayinka described the work of hostel supervisors and porters as a “Ministry,” stressing the importance of their roles in shaping the lives and wellbeing of students.

“Whatever you do today is an investment in the life of the children; with the little you add here, you shall be blessed,” he said.

He also used the occasion to pray for the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole, members of her management team and the entire University staff.

The workshop featured a lecture by the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Cornelius Ojo, titled “The Roles and Responsibilities of the Supervisors and Hostels’ Porters and the Expectations of the University from Them.”

Dr. Ojo addressed the participants on the corporate strategy for achieving the University’s mission and vision, as well as the roles and responsibilities of hostel supervisors and porters.

His presentation also covered hostel administration, environmental health and safety, enforcement of rules, regulations and discipline, and the welfare of students.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor charged the hostel supervisors and porters to commit their work to God and shared practical experiences from her years of relating with students and managing hostels at the University.

She urged the participants to apply the knowledge gained from the workshop in the discharge of their responsibilities and maintain professional standards in their interactions with students.

The programme culminated in the presentation of certificates to the participants, accompanied by a charge to give their utmost best professionally in handling students in their respective hostels.

The workshop formed part of the various training programmes being implemented under the leadership of Prof. Oduwole to improve staff productivity, strengthen effective and efficient service delivery, and reposition Ajayi Crowther University among top-tier universities in the country.
