LASU Signs MoU with US-Based Millennium Campus Network to Host Global Leadership Summit in 2027

Lagos State University (LASU) has entered into a strategic partnership with the United States-based Millennium Campus Network (MCN) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see the university host a major global leadership summit in March 2027.

The agreement was signed during a virtual ceremony on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, with representatives of the Millennium Campus Network participating from different locations around the world.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, described the partnership as a significant milestone built on shared commitments to academic excellence, innovation, global engagement and capacity development.

She stated that the collaboration would create opportunities for knowledge exchange, strengthen the skills of students and staff, and provide a platform for meaningful global participation while promoting values such as transparency, accountability and mutual respect.

Professor Olatunji-Bello noted that the partnership aligns with LASU’s vision of expanding its international presence through impactful collaborations. She expressed optimism that the alliance would empower students to become effective change-makers, enhance institutional capacity and contribute to addressing global challenges.

The Vice-Chancellor also appreciated stakeholders who contributed to the success of the partnership, particularly two LASU alumni, Kehinde Adebiyi and Victor Daniel, for their roles in facilitating the collaboration.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) and Chairman of the Partnership Steering Committee, Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi, FSPSP, expressed satisfaction that the partnership had reached fruition after months of engagement and preparation. He reaffirmed LASU’s readiness to host the upcoming summit.

The Executive Director of the Millennium Campus Network, Sam Vaghar, commended LASU for its commitment to youth development and civic leadership. He highlighted the growth of the Millennium Fellowship, which now involves nearly 300 universities across 47 countries, describing LASU as a model institution in nurturing young leaders and promoting social impact.

Vaghar expressed excitement about the forthcoming visit to LASU in March 2027 for the global leadership summit, which is expected to attract more than 1,000 students, educators, policymakers, institutional leaders and global partners.

The three-day summit will feature youth leadership programmes, high-level discussions, capacity-building sessions and a global hybrid gathering of Millennium Fellows from across the world.

The partnership will also support the planning and implementation of the summit while strengthening LASU’s commitment to internationalisation, strategic partnerships and the development of graduates equipped with the skills to create meaningful impact locally and globally.
