LAUTECH Scholar Wins National Young Researcher's Award in Microbiology

A scholar of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Professor Agbaje Lateef, has won the National Young Researcher's Award in Microbiology in recognition of his outstanding contributions to research and innovation in the field.

Professor Lateef, a Professor of Microbiology and Nanobiotechnology in the Department of Pure and Applied Biology, received the prestigious award for his remarkable achievements in microbiology, biotechnology and nanotechnology, further strengthening LAUTECH's reputation for research excellence.

The award recognises his sustained contributions to scientific research, technological innovation and capacity building, as well as his impact on advancing microbiological research in Nigeria and beyond.

Professor Lateef is widely recognised for his research in industrial microbiology, biotechnology and nanobiotechnology, with particular focus on fermentation processes, enzyme technology, the valorisation of agricultural waste, circular bioeconomy and the green synthesis of nanoparticles for applications in healthcare, agriculture, industry and environmental sustainability.

He heads the LAUTECH Nanotechnology Research Group (NANO+), one of Nigeria's leading multidisciplinary nanotechnology research teams, which has produced over 200 research publications and has played a significant role in advancing nanoscience and biotechnology research in the country.

The award adds to a growing list of honours received by the scholar, who has previously won national and international research grants and awards and has consistently been ranked among the world's top scientists in global citation assessments.
