Lawal Muhammad Nurudeen Appointed President of EFCC-ZTC Club, UDUS

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Zero Tolerance for Corruption, ZTC, Club, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, UDUS, Chapter, has appointed Lawal Muhammad Nurudeen, a 500 level Law student, as its new President.

The appointment was announced on September 5, 2026, during a handing-over ceremony held at the Faculty of Law Moot Court, following a rigorous screening and interview process.

Speaking with Digest Press UDUS, Lawal expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him, describing his appointment as both an honour and a responsibility.

"I feel deeply honoured, grateful, and humbled by the confidence reposed in me. At the same time, I recognise that this position comes with a great responsibility."

Lawal also acknowledged the contributions of previous administrations to the growth of the association. He said his administration would build on their achievements.

"I am also conscious of the fact that I am taking over from predecessors who have contributed immensely to the growth of the association. Their efforts and achievements will not be forgotten. Rather, my administration will build upon their good work and strive to leave an even stronger foundation for those who will come after us."

Speaking on his plans for the incoming administration, Lawal said his major objective is to make the EFCC-ZTC Club, UDUS, more active, impactful, inclusive, and development-oriented.

"My major plan is to make the EFCC–Zero Tolerance for Corruption Club, UDUS, a more active, impactful, inclusive, and leadership-oriented organisation."

He outlined several strategies aimed at promoting anti-corruption awareness and strengthening the association’s activities across the university.

According to him, the administration will focus on strengthening anti-corruption awareness and sensitisation across the university, organising seminars, lectures, debates, essay competitions, and other intellectual programmes, while promoting integrity, accountability, transparency, and responsible leadership among students.

He also highlighted the importance of developing members through leadership and capacity-building programmes.

Lawal further said his administration would work towards increasing the visibility and relevance of the association within the university community.

"I also want to strengthen the visibility and relevance of the association within the university community. Our activities should not only be known to our members; they should have a meaningful impact on the wider student community."

On his leadership approach, Lawal said his administration would be guided by inclusiveness, consultation, communication, and fairness.

He emphasised that members would be carried along in the affairs of the association and given opportunities to contribute to its development.

"I do not want a situation where only the executives know what is happening in the association. I want every member to have a voice and an opportunity to contribute."

He further stated that the administration would encourage constructive suggestions and feedback while ensuring that responsibilities and opportunities were distributed fairly among members.

Lawal pledged that members should expect transparency, accountability, accessibility, inclusiveness, discipline, and commitment from his administration.

"They should expect an administration that listens. They should expect meaningful programmes rather than activities organised merely for appearances. They should expect opportunities for personal development, leadership training, networking, and active participation."

He, however, called on members to demonstrate commitment and actively participate in the affairs of the association.  

"But I also expect something from the members: commitment."

The newly appointed President advised members to uphold the ethics and values of the association, believe in themselves, and take advantage of every opportunity to learn, serve, and develop their leadership abilities.

"Believe in yourself. Believe in your ability to make a difference. And never think that leadership is reserved for someone else."

He encouraged members to understand that leadership opportunities can come to anyone who demonstrates commitment and dedication.

"The person serving as President today was once a member just like everyone else. The member who is participating quietly today may become the President tomorrow."

He therefore urged members to remain active and committed to the association.

"You can find yourself here one day. So, take every opportunity to learn, serve, participate, and develop yourself."

In conclusion, Lawal assured members that the contributions of previous administrations would be respected and preserved as his administration begins its tenure.

"Finally, I want to assure our members that the efforts of our predecessors will never be forgotten. We will respect their legacy, uphold their good work, and build upon the foundation they have laid."
