Professor Emmanuel Sallau of the Department of Agricultural Extension and Development, Faculty of Agriculture, Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), served as a panelist at the National Advocacy and Sensitization Conference on the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) 30 Percent Value Addition Bill held in Abuja.

During the session, Prof. Sallau highlighted the critical role of the NSUK Institute of Raw Materials Development in training the workforce of relevant MDAs for implementing the 30 Percent Value Addition Policy. He stressed the significance of capacity-building programmes for Agricultural Extension officers, noting that these officers would equip farmers with practical knowledge on post-harvest processing technologies.
Prof. Sallau also recommended increased budgetary allocation to the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM), Ilorin, to enable the production of affordable agro-processing machinery and equipment for farmers. Additionally, he urged governments at all levels to provide grants and credit facilities to smallholder farmers to support the acquisition of essential processing equipment.

The programme was widely regarded as successful and impactful for advancing value addition in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
