NANS Celebrates Osimhen and Oshoala’s Triumph at 2023 CAF Awards

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has celebrated the victories of Nigerian football stars, Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala, at the 2023 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards held in Morocco on Monday evening.

Osimhen, of the Super Eagles, and Oshoala, of the Super Falcons, were announced as the African Players of the Year in the male and female categories, respectively. In addition, Super Falcons’ Chiamaka Nnadozie was crowned the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for 2023.

In a statement released on Tuesday, NANS attributed the victories of Osimhen and Oshoala to their dedication and consistency in football. The statement, signed by NANS National Senate President, Elvis Ekundina, described the duo as “good ambassadors of Nigerian youths who have done the country proud.”

“Osimhen and Oshoala’s triumph at CAF awards has re-established Nigeria’s dominance in African football. The entire Nigerian students are proud of you. Your victories are testaments to the hard work, strong spirit, and patriotism that you have for your country,” Ekundina said.

NANS also called on the government at all levels to invest more in sports and the discovery of new talents who will make the country proud. Looking ahead to the 2024 National Sports Festival, the students expressed hope that the festival would be an avenue to showcase raw talents who would “be the next Osimhens, Oshoalas, Tobi Amusans, among others.”
