Uzairue Sons and Daughters Forum Seeks Stronger Collaboration with Edo State University

The Uzairue Sons and Daughters Forum on Monday, 7th September 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Edo State University, Iyamho, Professor Victor Olawale Adetimirin, and the university management team.

The forum, led by its President, Amir Sirajudeen Muhammad, comprised delegates representing various Uzairue communities. The delegation congratulated the Vice-Chancellor on his appointment and engaged the university management on issues concerning the development and progress of the university and its host communities.

During the visit, the forum raised several issues of concern, including the yet-to-be-completed Edo State University Teaching Hospital complex, appointments within the university, and the welfare and safety of medical students travelling from the main campus to the Teaching Hospital in Auchi for clinical postings.

Responding to the concerns, the Vice-Chancellor explained that the Teaching Hospital is a State Government project, noting that its completion is beyond the financial capacity of the university.

He provided information on efforts being made by the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to ensure the completion of the complex.

On electricity supply, Professor Adetimirin acknowledged the challenges previously experienced but disclosed that the university now enjoys between 18 and 20 hours of electricity supply daily following its upgrade from Band C to Band A.

He said the arrangement costs the university over N45 million monthly. He added that the university is also working towards developing a solar power project to provide a more sustainable and reliable energy solution.

Addressing the issue of appointments, Professor Adetimirin assured the visitors that the university remains committed to recruiting competent and qualified personnel who can contribute meaningfully to its vision of becoming a world-class university.

He stressed that academic appointments are guided by merit, competence and the need to uphold the institution’s high academic standards.

The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that the university continues to award indigent scholarships to deserving students, reaffirming Management’s commitment to supporting students facing financial challenges and ensuring that such circumstances do not constitute a barrier to accessing quality education.

He disclosed that a total of 17 students recently benefited from the Indigent Students Scholarship Scheme.

The forum commended the university management for its efforts and called for continued collaboration among the university, the State Government and the host communities to promote the sustained development of the institution.

The visit ended on a positive note, with both parties expressing their commitment to strengthening their relationship and working collaboratively towards the continued growth and development of Edo State University, Iyamho.
