NELFUND to Settle Four-Month Upkeep Arrears Following Strategic Engagement at Bayero University Kano

In a significant move to alleviate student welfare concerns, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, has assured students of Bayero University Kano (BUK) that the four-month backlog of outstanding upkeep allowances will be cleared shortly.

The commitment was made on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, during an official visit by the NELFUND management to the BUK New Campus. The visit featured a direct engagement session at the Kitchen Conversion, allowing students to present their grievances and questions directly to the fund's leadership.

The Students' Union Government (SUG), led by Comr. Abdulmudallib Kalli Sheriff, applauded the NELFUND management for their transparency and willingness to listen to student concerns. The President also expressed gratitude to the BUK Management, under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, fsi, for facilitating the engagement and consistently prioritizing student success.

The Vice-Chancellor, who was present alongside other university officials, noted that the university would continue to act as a bridge between the students and the fund to ensure the seamless implementation of the loan scheme.
