Nigerian Navy Secondary School Ojo Alumni Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha Commission N25m Renovated Hostel

Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Ojo, Lagos, has commissioned a newly renovated N25 million hostel funded by alumni led by the Class of 1989, improving students' welfare and learning environment.

Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha, has inaugurated a N25m newly renovated hostel at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Ojo, Lagos.

The renovation was embarked upon by the Class of 1989, alongside other alumni and sets of the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Ojo, under the aegis of the NNSS Ojo Renovation Team.

The inauguration of the hostel also coincided with the Passing Out Parade and 2025/2026 graduation ceremony, held at NNSS, Ojo, in Lagos.

He commended the Alumni for the renovation of one of the school’s hostel blocks, which would improve the welfare and learning environment for students.

Mustapha said the intervention reflected the alumni’s enduring commitment to restoring the school to its former glory as a centre of academic excellence and character development.

According to him, the initiative represents the beginning of a broader transformation agenda for the school.

Mustapha said, “This is an icebreaker. The Renovation Team has taken the lead, and I believe the school is now on the right trajectory to reclaim its position as one of the best and most sought-after secondary schools in Lagos State. We already have the framework in place; what remains is the continuous upgrade of the school’s facilities.”

The Coordinator of the NNSS Ojo Renovation Team and an alumnus of the Class of 1989, Mr Nosa Ozigbo-Esere, said the project involved extensive structural rehabilitation of the hostel, refurbishment of accommodation facilities, upgrading of sanitary conveniences, installation of new electrical fittings, repainting, and other critical infrastructure improvements designed to enhance students’ comfort and well-being.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the project, Ozigbo-Esere recalled that the idea was conceived following one of his routine visits to the school, where he observed the deteriorating condition of the hostel facilities.

Ozigbo-Esere said, “I discovered that the hostel facilities were a far cry from what we had during our time as students. That experience prompted me to mobilise like-minded alumni who shared the same passion for giving back to our alma mater. The result is what we are celebrating today.

“This project is not just a hostel renovation; it is a lasting investment in the future of every student who passes through the gates of Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Ojo.”

He added that the initiative was conceived as a way of expressing gratitude to the institution that laid the foundation for the personal and professional success of many alumni.

Ozigbo-Esere challenged younger graduating sets to emulate the spirit of service and remain committed to supporting their alma mater long after graduation.

In her remarks, the Commandant of Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Ojo, Captain Nkari Adeyemi, described the intervention as a remarkable demonstration of the alumni’s unwavering commitment to the growth and development of the institution.

She said the upgraded hostel would provide a safer, more conducive, and comfortable living environment for students while enhancing their overall learning experience.

Adeyemi expressed appreciation to the members of the NNSS Ojo Renovation Team that contributed to the project, describing their gesture as an enduring legacy that would positively impact generations of students.

She also appealed to alumni across all graduating sets to continue supporting the school through infrastructure development, scholarships, mentorship programmes, and other initiatives that would sustain the institution’s tradition of excellence.
