NIQS Borno State Chapter Partners with Kashim Ibrahim University to Advance Infrastructural Accountability
The Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Borno State Chapter, QS Zanna Sumayin, alongside members of the association, paid an advocacy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU), Professor Babagana Gutti, at the university campus.
Speaking during the visit, QS Zanna Sumayin stated that the delegation was at the university on behalf of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Borno State Chapter, and the Quantity Surveying profession at large.
He expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and the university management for granting them the opportunity to engage with the institution.
“We sincerely appreciate this opportunity to pay an advocacy visit to the management of Kashim Ibrahim University. Our visit is aimed at strengthening the relationship between the university community and the Quantity Surveying profession in Borno State, as well as discussing areas of mutual cooperation for the growth and sustainable development of the university,” he said.
QS Zanna further explained that Quantity Surveyors are professionals responsible for construction cost and financial management. According to him, their primary responsibility is to ensure that construction projects are properly planned, economically executed, and prudently managed from inception to completion.

He added that Quantity Surveyors play vital roles in budgeting, cost control, procurement processes, contract administration, value management, and ensuring financial accountability in construction and infrastructural development projects.
The Chairman also emphasized the importance of collaboration between professional bodies and academic institutions in promoting excellence, professionalism, and sustainable infrastructural growth within the state and the country at large.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor of Kashim Ibrahim University, Professor Babagana Gutti, warmly welcomed the Chairman and members of the association to the university. He commended the contributions of Quantity Surveyors to infrastructural development and acknowledged the importance of their profession in ensuring quality and cost-effective projects.
Professor Gutti noted that with the presence of professional Quantity Surveyors within Borno State, the university would always seek local expertise whenever the need arises. He further stated that KIU is privileged to have professional Quantity Surveyors within the institution who have continued to contribute significantly to the development of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed delight over the visit and assured the association of the university’s readiness to collaborate with the institute in areas of mutual interest.
He also revealed that the university is making plans to establish a Faculty of Environmental Studies, which will further create opportunities for professional and academic collaboration.
