NMA Warns Makinde as LAUTECH Ogbomoso Doctors’ Welfare Issues Remain Unresolved
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has appealed to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to urgently resolve outstanding welfare issues affecting doctors at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.

NMA has urged Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde to resolve outstanding welfare issues affecting LAUTECH Ogbomoso doctors to prevent healthcare disruption.
NMA President, Prof Afekhide Omoti, made the appeal in a statement issued on Saturday, saying several commitments made by the Oyo State Government to the Association of Resident Doctors, LAUTECH Ogbomoso, remained unresolved despite months of dialogue and advocacy.
According to the association, the outstanding issues include payment of state minimum wage arrears dating from January 2025, the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund for eligible resident doctors, implementation of the Corrected Professional Allowances Table and Call/Work-Hour Regulatory Policy, as well as payment of upgrade arrears owed to affected doctors.
The NMA described the demands as legitimate welfare and workplace concerns, stressing that doctors’ working conditions could directly affect their morale and, ultimately, the quality and safety of healthcare delivery.
The association warned that excessive workloads, inadequate remuneration and an overstretched workforce could increase fatigue and burnout among doctors, with possible consequences for clinical performance and patient safety.
It also commended the LAUTECH Ogbomoso resident doctors for maintaining restraint and professionalism while allowing about three months for discussions with the government. However, the NMA said continued advocacy without corresponding action could no longer be sustained indefinitely.
Omoti therefore urged Governor Makinde to personally intervene and ensure that the outstanding agreements and welfare demands were implemented without further delay.
The NMA said resolving the issues would boost doctors’ morale, motivation and productivity while helping to safeguard uninterrupted healthcare delivery across Oyo State.
It further reaffirmed its willingness to work with the Oyo State Government and relevant bodies towards a lasting resolution, stressing that the health of residents must remain paramount and the welfare of the doctors responsible for protecting it should not be treated as an afterthought.
