The Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, has expressed profound grief over the passing of the University’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Emeritus Professor David Adamu Baikie.

The Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, has expressed profound grief over the passing of the University’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Emeritus Professor David Adamu Baikie.

Professor Baikie, a revered academic and elder statesman, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the age of 94 in his hometown of Zaria, Kaduna State. He was widely celebrated as the first Professor of Education in Northern Nigeria and a foundational figure in the development of NSUK.

Emeritus Professor Baikie served as NSUK’s first Vice-Chancellor from February 2002 to December 31, 2009, during which he established a solid framework for the university’s growth and academic excellence. Following his tenure, he continued to serve as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, offering invaluable guidance that helped shape NSUK into a reputable center of learning.

On behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, Management, staff, and students, Professor Liman extended heartfelt condolences to the late Professor Baikie’s family, friends, and associates, praying for divine comfort and strength to bear this monumental loss.
