The National Universities Commission (NUC) paid a courtesy visit to the Imo State University (IAUE) management on Friday, October 31, 2025, to conduct the accreditation exercise for the History and Diplomatic Studies programme.

The visit took place at the university’s Council Chambers and aimed to assess the programme’s compliance with national standards.
Leading the delegation, Professor Ifeyinwa Emejulu from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, explained that the exercise was designed to evaluate the programme’s curriculum, recognize areas of strength, identify weaknesses, and provide recommendations for improvement. She emphasized that the process is collaborative and developmental rather than punitive, and requested full cooperation from the university by providing necessary documents and materials to facilitate the evaluation.

The Vice Chancellor of IAUE, Professor Okechukwu Onuchuku, welcomed the NUC team and expressed gratitude for accepting the critical assignment, noting that such exercises ensure the university aligns with NUC’s minimum academic standards. He commended the commission for its efforts in reviewing programmes to enhance educational quality, maintain global relevance, and support continuous improvement.
Additionally, the Director of Academic Planning, Professor Joseph Kinanee, assured the NUC team of the university’s full cooperation throughout the accreditation process, emphasizing IAUE’s commitment to providing all required documentation and facilitating a smooth evaluation.

The Public Relations Officer of IAUE, Dr. Ngozi Okiridu, who reported on the visit, confirmed that both university management and the NUC team expressed optimism that the exercise would strengthen the programme and further enhance the university’s academic reputation.
