OAU Student Demands ₦15 Million in Damages Over Alleged False Rape Accusation
A 200-level student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), David Ojuko Adefesobi, has issued a 14-day legal ultimatum to a fellow student, demanding ₦15 million in damages over an alleged false rape accusation.
According to his legal representatives, the allegation was made around February 17, 2026, and reportedly circulated on social media platforms, including WhatsApp, alongside his phone number. His lawyers described the claim as false, malicious, and damaging to his reputation, mental health, and business opportunities.
Although the accuser later released a video retracting the statement, David maintains that the damage had already been done.
He is now demanding:
A formal public apology clearly stating the allegation was false
Immediate removal of all related posts
A written commitment against further defamatory statements
₦15 million in damages
The letter states that if these demands are not met within 14 days, the matter will proceed to court.
This case raises serious conversations about false accusations, reputational damage, and the legal consequences of online claims.
