OGITECH Strengthens Research Capacity Through Training on TETFund, World Bank Grants

The Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, has organised a workshop to strengthen the capacity of its academic staff in research grant writing and publishing in rigorous international journals.

The training, organised by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Igbesa, in collaboration with the Directorate of Research and Innovation, was held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the Dapo Abiodun Twin Lecture Theatre, OGITECH, Igbesa.

The programme, titled “Accessing TETFund and World Bank Research Grants and Publishing in Rigorous International Journals,” brought together academic staff and researchers seeking to improve their research writing skills, understand the grant application process and increase their prospects of securing research funding.

Declaring the programme open, the Rector of OGITECH, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to host the training and commended the invited facilitators and participants for their presence and contributions to the programme.

Dr. Oluseye described research as a critical component of academic development, noting that it remains one of the key factors that enables teaching staff to grow and remain relevant in their profession.

He encouraged participants to take research and academic writing seriously, adding that quality research and well-written textbooks could help researchers gain recognition and visibility beyond their immediate institutions.

The Rector also highlighted the importance of lecturers’ research to students and noted the growing relevance of interdisciplinary research in addressing contemporary challenges.

He urged participants to make effective use of the opportunity provided by the institution to strengthen their research capacity and gain a better understanding of how to access TETFund research grants and other funding opportunities.

Speaking on “Writing Proposals for Winning TETFund Grants,” the first facilitator, Professor Olatunde Farombi, Professor of Biochemistry, Molecular Toxicology and Translational Medicine and Quondam Dean, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, emphasised the competitive nature of research grants.

Professor Farombi, who is also the Deputy Chancellor of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Ogun State, explained that grantsmanship is a competition in which only a limited number of applications receive funding.

He therefore encouraged researchers to pay close attention to the quality, structure and relevance of their proposals when applying for research grants.

The second facilitator, Dr. Moses Udoisoh, a researcher in Molecular and Medicinal Biophysics at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rivers State, and Founder of Scholarly Writings Ltd., focused on research writing and publishing in rigorous international journals.

Dr. Udoisoh sensitised participants to the principles of producing quality research and navigating the process of publishing their work in reputable international journals.

The training sessions provided participants with practical insights into research proposal development, grant applications and academic publication, with emphasis on improving the quality and visibility of their research works.

In his vote of thanks, the Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Sulaiman Olaitan Aminu, appreciated the Rector, participants and facilitators for their contributions to the success of the programme.

He congratulated the participants and encouraged them to apply the knowledge gained from the training to improve the quality of their research, writing and publications.

He also urged them to take advantage of available opportunities to access TETFund research grants.

The training further reinforced OGITECH’s commitment to strengthening research, innovation and academic development among its staff.
