OYOSUBEB Denies Common Entrance Exam Result Leakage Allegation, Threatens Legal Action

OYOSUBEB has denied involvement in the alleged leakage of Oyo Common Entrance Examination results and warned of legal action over unverified claims.

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) has denied allegations linking it to the alleged leakage of results from the recently concluded Common Entrance Examination in the state, warning that continued publication or broadcast of unverified claims could attract legal action.

The Board, in a statement issued by its management on Tuesday, said it had no role in the setting, production, conduct or handling of questions for the examination and, therefore, could not be held responsible for any alleged leakage.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the integrity of examinations and the need for public institutions and media organisations to ensure that allegations capable of undermining public confidence in the education system are properly verified before being made public.

OYOSUBEB said the allegation was made during a radio programme in Ibadan and described the claim as “false, misleading and capable of causing unnecessary damage” to the reputation of the Board and its leadership.

“For the avoidance of doubt, OYOSUBEB is not involved at any stage in the conduct, setting, production or handling of questions for the Common Entrance Examination,” the Board stated.

It added: “Therefore, any attempt to link the Board, its Executive Chairman or its officials to the alleged leakage is completely unfounded.”

According to the Board, the administration of its Executive Chairman, Dr Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, has consistently operated on the principles of transparency, accountability and professionalism.

The Board said it would not allow what it described as “unsubstantiated allegations or speculative reports” to undermine the credibility of the institution or its leadership.

It further clarified that complaints or inquiries concerning the conduct, administration or outcome of the Common Entrance Examination should be directed to the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, which it identified as the appropriate authority responsible for the examination.

“Such matters should not be directed to OYOSUBEB, which has no involvement in the conduct or administration of the examination,” it stated.

The Board, however, acknowledged the role of the media in scrutinising public institutions, stressing that such responsibility must be exercised within the bounds of accuracy, fairness and professional journalism.

While calling on the management and presenters of the radio station involved, as well as other media organisations, to verify information before broadcasting allegations against public institutions and officials, OYOSUBEB said accountability should not be separated from factual accuracy.

“The Board therefore calls on the management and presenters of the said radio station, as well as other media organisations, to exercise caution and verify facts before making or airing allegations concerning OYOSUBEB and its officials,” it said.

The Board also issued a legal warning against what it termed defamatory statements, false allegations and continued attempts to tarnish Adeniran’s reputation.

“OYOSUBEB further warns that any defamatory statement, false allegation or continued smear campaign against the person and reputation of the Executive Chairman, Dr Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, by any broadcaster or media platform will be met with strong legal action,” the statement said.

It added that the Board “will not hesitate to pursue all lawful remedies available to protect the integrity and reputation of its leadership.”

OYOSUBEB urged members of the public, particularly parents and stakeholders in the education sector, to disregard the allegation and rely on information obtained from the appropriate authorities.

The Board reaffirmed its commitment to its statutory responsibility of strengthening basic education in Oyo State, saying it would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to promote quality, transparency and accountability in the sector.
