PDP Elects UDUS Lecturer Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as National Chairman

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has elected Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, a former lecturer at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), as its new National Chairman.

Dr. Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, secured 1,516 votes, defeating his closest rival, Lado Danmarke, who received 275 votes, during the party's national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Turaki assured party members and Nigerians that there would be "no more impunity" and pledged to lead a comprehensive reform agenda aimed at restoring internal democracy, strengthening party unity, and addressing longstanding grievances within the party. He emphasized that the PDP remains the only political party in Nigeria that has retained its original identity since inception, attributing this to its roots among ordinary Nigerians and its resilience over the years.

Dr. Turaki's election is seen as a strategic move to consolidate legal expertise, political experience, and party unity at a critical juncture for Nigeria's opposition politics. His leadership is expected to shape the party's direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
