Joseph Ayo Babalola University Hosts 12th Inaugural Lecture, Calls for User-Driven Design Revolution

Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU) recently held its 12th inaugural lecture, where Professor Olutunde Folaranmi Adedayo, Dean of Environmental Science, delivered a thought-provoking speech on the need for a design revolution in architecture.

Speaking on "Users' Expressions in Building: A Cry for Mass Customization in Architecture," Prof. Adedayo emphasized the importance of abandoning rigid, one-size-fits-all designs in favor of flexible spaces that adapt to users' evolving needs.

Prof. Adedayo stressed that building users constantly express their preferences, yet their voices are often overlooked in the design process. He advocated for a new architectural mindset that prioritizes listening, responding, and evolving with the people who inhabit these spaces. To achieve this, he recommended updating architectural curricula to focus on user-data collection, integrating customization into construction processes, and emphasizing sustainable practices that favor adaptation over demolition.
