McPherson University Steps Up Capacity Building, Research Excellence and Globalisation

McPherson University has begun discussions with BEE Solutions and Consultancy Services regarding a strategic partnership to strengthen capacity development, promote research excellence, and create opportunities for international collaboration for staff and students.

The discussions involved the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Francis Igbasan; the Registrar, Mrs. Emi' Alawode; and the Founder and Director of BEE Solutions and Consultancy Services, South Africa, Professor Beatrice Opeolu.

The proposed partnership is expected to provide capacity-building opportunities for academic and administrative staff, while equipping students and researchers with the skills needed to develop competitive research proposals that attract local and international funding.

Professor Igbasan expressed optimism about the proposed partnership, emphasizing the importance of global exposure and strategic institutional collaboration in advancing the University's academic and institutional development. He noted that McPherson University remained open to strategic collaborations that would empower staff, create opportunities for students and strengthen the University's academic standing.

A major focus of the partnership is research development, particularly training in grant writing and promoting high-impact research to address developmental challenges in Nigeria and across Africa. The initiative will also explore leadership development programmes for Deans, Heads of Departments and emerging academic leaders.

Beyond academic development, Professor Opeolu, who is also a former President of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, SETAC, World Council, said the partnership is expected to extend to administrative and technical staff through training in artificial intelligence, modern administrative practices and the transition towards paperless office systems.

Additionally, the collaboration anticipates the launch of the "EmpowHer" initiative at McPherson University, a targeted leadership and skills programme designed specifically for female undergraduate students. Mrs. Emi' Alawode, a co-convener of EmpowHer, added that the initiative focuses on mentorship, building professional profiles such as on LinkedIn, and career-readiness workshops for female students. 

Having already recorded success across several African higher education institutions, including cohorts in South Africa and Nigeria, the gender-focused project aims to equip young women with essential tools for future leadership.
