LASU Graduate Ayomide Olubunmi Bags First Class Despite Early Hardship
Ayomide Olubunmi has inspired many after sharing her journey from a difficult childhood to graduating with first-class honours from Lagos State University with a CGPA of 4.77.
Having lost her father at five months old, she was raised by her mother in a low-income neighbourhood in Lagos and hawked sachet water as a teenager to support the family. Despite the challenges, she remained focused on her education.
After sitting for UTME twice, she secured admission to LASU. Her education was later supported by an uncle based in Germany who learned of her situation through a family connection.

While at university, she combined academics with enterprise and service. She ran a small business, hosted events and founded LASU Fellows, a student initiative involving 30 students, while also holding a full-time remote job.
Her resilience paid off as she emerged as the best graduating student in her department for the 2024/2025 academic session. She also received the Alima Atta Award and secured a role as a communication strategist at a technology company before graduation.
Her story underscores the role of determination, support and hard work in overcoming adversity.
