Rep Summons UDUS VC over 2023 Budget Concerns

The House of Representatives Committee on University Education has summoned Professor Bashir Garba, the Vice-chancellor of Usman Danfodio University Sokoto (UDUS), to appear before it over concern raised about the institution's 2023 Budget Performance. TheCable had reported on Friday. 

According to the report issued by the committee's chairman, Abubakar Fulata (APC-Jigawa), the University management had not submitted some key financial documents requested before its budget review session. 

TheCable revealed that the committee will not hesitate to issue an arrest warrant if Prof. Garba failed to comply .

The committee chairman also stated that during a visit to UDUS, lawmakers observed what he described as a deliberate attempt to conceal documents regarding the institution’s operations and to frustrate lawmakers on-the-spot assessment. Fulata also stated that Prof. Garba, UDUS Vice Chancellor has refused to submit 2023,2024 and 2025 budgets despite persistent official letters.

TheCable also revealed that during the committee's visit to the school, the VC was nowhere to be found and even the available officials had no proper documents to defend the running of the schools for the past three years. 

He also noted that a proper scrutiny on the previous budgets will allow the committee to respond to critical challenges of the institution.
