On September 19, 2025, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Rivers State University (RSU), Hon. Okey Wali, SAN, held a strategic engagement with the leadership of all staff unions at the University’s Council Chamber.

Hon. Wali reaffirmed his commitment to positioning RSU for global academic recognition and improved rankings, stressing that such aspirations can only be achieved through unity, dialogue, and mutual respect among all stakeholders.

The meeting was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi, alongside other Principal Officers of the University and leaders of the major staff unions. Those present included Dr. Emmanuel Davies, Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU); Barr. Tamuno Williams, Chairman, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU); Engr. Nnamdi Issac Munonye, Vice-Chairman, National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT); and Comrade Friday Lucky Nwialala, Chairman, Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU).

In his remarks, Hon. Wali expressed gratitude to the union leaders for their dedication and service, describing their contributions as sacrifices made for the collective progress of the RSU community, beyond personal interest.
