Rivers State University (RSU) held its first-ever annual retirees send-forth on Monday, October 6, 2025, celebrating 74 staff members who recently concluded their service.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi, used the event to encourage the retirees to embrace the new chapter as a beginning, not an end.

The celebration, held at the University's Convocation Arena, honored 11 teaching, 51 senior non-teaching, and 12 junior non-teaching staff.

Professor Zeb-Obipi urged the departing staff to seize new opportunities in retirement, specifically mentioning farming, book writing, volunteering, and community service. He assured strong and willing retirees that the University would consider re-engaging them on contract, subject to government approval, acknowledging the need to fill the operational gaps created by their exit.

The theme of the day, "Living and Thriving in Retirement," was reinforced by the Chairman of the occasion and former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nlerum S. Okogbule, and Mr. Ebenezer Oladimeji, Area Manager of ITF, Port Harcourt.

To maintain connection with the long-serving personnel, the University launched the RSU Retiree Directory and appointed a dedicated desk officer to keep in touch during festive seasons and special events. Additionally, each of the 74 retirees was presented with a gift.

Representatives of the retirees, including Professor Victor Akujuru, Dr. Dagogo Cookey-Gam, and Engr. Frank Mbah, expressed profound gratitude to the University for the special recognition.
