As part of events marking the 5th Convocation Ceremony of KolaDaisi University (KDU), Ibadan, the institution hosted its maiden Commencement Speech on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the Sherifat Agbeke Auditorium.

Delivering the address titled “Running Your Race, Not Another Person’s Race,” Sir Demola Aladekomo, Chairman, Board of Directors, SmartCity Resorts Plc, shared his inspiring personal story and urged graduates to pursue purpose with faith, focus, and discipline.

Recounting his humble beginnings in Osogbo, Sir Aladekomo narrated how he hawked on the streets to support his family after the loss of his father. He said those early struggles became the foundation of his resilience and entrepreneurial vision. “Poverty, though painful, can ignite purpose when met with faith and determination,” he told the graduates.

Sir Aladekomo also advised the graduates to resist the urge to compare themselves with others, noting that “many people lose direction when they run in someone else’s lane.” Instead, he encouraged them to remain focused on their personal journeys and to pursue excellence with persistence.
