Medical Lecturers Reject LAUTECH’s CONMESS Timeline, Blame Management for Students’ Protests
The Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) branch, has rejected the university management’s proposed implementation timeline for the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), describing it as unacceptable and a breach of earlier commitments.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the association faulted LAUTECH management’s recent pronouncements on the matter and condemned the deferment of full CONMESS implementation to July 2026—almost 19 months after negotiations began.
NAMDA clarified that the ongoing protests by medical students were not instigated by the association’s actions, but rather stemmed from the management’s persistent failure to implement the agreed salary structure and to honour promises made during earlier engagements.
The association reminded the public that its members had embarked on an indefinite strike since August 1, 2025, in protest against the university’s continued delay and unfulfilled assurances.
LAUTECH management, in a statement released on November 7, 2025, via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle and website, announced that CONMESS implementation would commence from the November 2025 salary cycle, with full execution to follow by July 2026, and arrears to be considered thereafter.
The statement, signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. Olayinka Balogun, titled “Re: Implementation of CONMESS and Ongoing Student Protest at LAUTECH,” noted:

“The management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, wishes to address the public regarding recent developments surrounding the implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure and the resulting protest by medical students of the institution.
During a recent engagement with the leadership of the Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA), LAUTECH Branch, the University made a formal commitment to commence the implementation of CONMESS scheduled to begin with the November 2025 salary cycle. Full implementation will then follow by July 2026. Furthermore, the university pledged to consider the payment of arrears thereafter.”
However, NAMDA described the management’s statement as “misleading and inconsistent”, arguing that the deferment contradicted earlier assurances and failed to address the legitimate concerns of medical and dental lecturers who have continued to show restraint despite prolonged negotiations.
The association reiterated its readiness for dialogue but insisted that immediate and full implementation of CONMESS remains the only acceptable resolution to the crisis.
