UNIZIK Students Emerge First Runner-Up at 2026 National Policy Challenge
Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK), have emerged First Runner-Up at the 2026 Policy Challenge, a national platform that brings together young Nigerians to develop and defend practical policy solutions to pressing national challenges.
Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK), have emerged First Runner-Up at the 2026 Policy Challenge, a national platform that brings together young Nigerians to develop and defend practical policy solutions to pressing national challenges.
Following a rigorous selection process, only five universities advanced to the national finals. Veritas University emerged as the overall winner, while Nnamdi Azikiwe University finished as First Runner-Up, ahead of the University of Lagos, Adeleke University and Nile University.
Representing UNIZIK was Team Astrum, comprising Tony-Igwe Onyinye, a 300-level Economics student, and Shadrach Chidike, a 400-level Mechanical Engineering student.

After progressing through the various stages of the competition, the team presented and defended its policy proposal focused on reforming Nigeria’s electricity sector before a panel of judges.
The team’s strong performance earned UNIZIK the First Runner-Up position, placing the university among the top two institutions in the national competition.
The achievement highlights the intellectual capacity, interdisciplinary collaboration and commitment of UNIZIK students to developing practical solutions to some of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges.
The university community has congratulated Shadrach Chidike and Tony-Igwe Onyinye on the achievement and for representing Nnamdi Azikiwe University with distinction.
